In 2017, we said goodbye to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine after he played the iconic comic-book character for almost two decades. Thankfully, that goodbye wasn’t permanent, and with Deadpool & Wolverine releasing this week, we are set to see him back on the big screen once again, this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reunited with his old friend Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) after 15 years.
And it seems as though despite Marvel rebooting the X-Men franchise and introducing mutants into the MCU, we might not be saying goodbye to Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine for a little while just yet.
In a recent interview with Collider, Kevin Feige addressed the uncertainty surrounding the future of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the MCU.
When asked about the future of Ryan and Hugh in the MCU and if there are any plans for their characters beyond the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie, Feige responded, “It’s definitely, ‘Let’s get through this.’ But as we sit here talking, and the movie comes out in a week, and the movie’s been finished for a couple of weeks, there’s certainly been a lot of discussions of, ‘That was fun. What should we do next?'”

With Secret Wars looming large in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the potential of another multiversal crossover on the horizon alongside it, fans do expect to see some of their favorite version of Marvel superheroes throughout the last two decades return to the big screen one more time.
It would certainly be a dream come true for many fans to see the likes of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man interact with Reynolds’ Deadpool or to see Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Wolverine together. The mere thought of the possibility of it alone sends chills down our spines.
While we don’t quite know what lies ahead in Secret Wars, with both the stars of Deadpool & Wolverine having expressed their excitement in regards to returning to this world again and with Feige open to the idea of it, one can certainly hold on to the hope that we get to see our childhood heroes like Wolverine be a part of the Avengers.
