Eminem Makes History as Curtain Call: The Hits Becomes the First Hip-Hop Album to Reach 700 Weeks on Billboard 200

Eminem returned atop the Billboard 200 with his latest and twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), released earlier this year, and while his newest release certainly continues to perform well, another album from the rapper’s iconic catalogue, Curtain Call: The Hits, has just reached a historic milestone.

Curtain Call: The Hits Reaches 700 Weeks on Billboard 200

Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits, a compilation of his biggest and most popular singles, has now spent an astounding 700 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. This makes it one of the few albums in history to achieve such longevity, further cementing Eminem’s status as one of the most successful artists of all time.

Eminem joins a very rare group of artists who have achieved this feat and is in some elite company, as he is now just the sixth artist to have reached this major milestone. Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon currently holds the record for the most time spent on the Billboard 200, with over 990 weeks. It is on track to become the first album ever to reach 1,000 weeks. Other long-charting albums include Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend (851 weeks), Journey’s Greatest Hits (821 weeks), Metallica’s self-titled album (758 weeks), and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits (710 weeks).

Curtain Call: The Hits is also the first hip-hop album to ever reach 700 weeks on the Billboard 200 and stands well ahead of any other hip-hop record in terms of chart longevity, with Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City being the second-longest-charting hip-hop album at nearly 620 weeks.

Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits remains a pivotal and significant part of Eminem’s impressive discography, which includes 11 albums that have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and is a celebration of his jubilant and extraordinary career. The album racked up first-week sales of nearly 441,000 and close to 324,000 scans in the second week for a two-week stay at number one. It slipped from number one to number four in its third week but surged 33 per cent to finish with sales close to 430,000. The disc scored nearly 1.2 million scans in its first three weeks of release.
