We have had some remarkable sequels this year and have also seen some much-anticipated new adaptations live up to their name and go on to become very successful. There hasn’t been a single season where we were starved for good anime. What a year it has been for the medium.
As we are almost at the end of the fiscal year, today we are taking a look at the Top 10 Best-Selling Anime of 2022 in Japan.

It should be noted that the list is according to the sales for the first DVD/BD disc of the anime. Furthermore, Oricon’s fiscal year starts in December; thus, the list also includes titles that had their first volume released in December 2021.
Lycoris Recoil is the Best-Selling Anime of 2022.
Lycoris Recoil has left the Entertainment District Arc of Demon Slayer Season 2 behind with the sales of its first home release disc. The first volume of this original anime by A-1 Pictures sold 29,414 copies and is the Best-Selling TV Anime Disc of 2022.
Demon Slayer Season 2 has sold a total of over 120,000 copies.
The first volume of Demon Slayer Season 2 sold 25,269 copies and is second on this list of the Best-Selling Anime of 2022.
Throughout its six volumes, the series sold a total of over 120,000 copies.
Meanwhile, only two out of six volumes have been released of Lycoris Recoil, with the second volume selling 25,706 copies as of the time of the writing of this article.
We all know how big of a phenomenon Demon Slayer is in Japan, but Lycoris Recoil has seen such a great amount of unprecedented success during the last few months; it all has been a pleasant surprise. Kudos to the staff of the anime and the love they have poured into this passion project of theirs. We just hope to see more of Chisato and Takina soon.

The recognition and popularity Love Live has in Japan needs no introduction. Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Season 2 and Love Live! Superstar!! Season 2 take the next two spots on the list, selling over 21,400 and 13,600 copies, respectively.
SPY x FAMILY Volume 1 sold over 10,000 copies.
My Dress-Up Darling has gone on to become one of the biggest modern romance hits. The series has sold a cumulative total of over 62,000 copies this year from its six discs.
The anime is fifth on the list, with Volume 1 of My Dress-Up Darling selling 12,453 copies.
Meanwhile, SPY x FAMILY has seen a tremendous amount of success and has gone on to become a bit of a mainstream name from the medium, not just in Japan but around the globe as well. The first disc of the anime sold 10,009 copies, while the second disc sold 9,124 copies.
The anime has also been the Most-Watched TV Show in Japanese Streaming for over six weeks now.
Akebi’s Sailor Uniform is another title that has surpassed several big names, such as Overlord and Kaguya-sama: Love is War, to take a place on the Top 10. You can see the full list below.

Additionally, the first disc of Season 2 of Made in Abyss sold 3,266 copies, while the first volume of Overlord Season 4 sold 3,236 copies during its debut week. Part 2 of the Final Season of Attack on Titan sold 2,545 and 2,259 copies, with its two volumes, respectively.
The home release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 sold 175,983 copies and grossed over $9 million from it. It is also the Best-Selling Film of 2022 on Home Media in Japan.
