Writing on his Archives site, Young praised Harris for her experience, integrity, and straightforward approach, stating: “She is an honest, forthright truth teller who is experienced in the White House, free from ambiguity or evasiveness, who goes straight to the point.”
He further highlighted her qualifications, adding: “Clear-headed and young enough to hold the office for a couple of bright future terms, Kamala Harris is a good person who is unafraid to take on criminals and uphold the law of the USA. She’s my candidate for the future of this great country.”
Young also voiced his belief that Harris will hold the wealthy accountable: “She will take on the billionaire class and make them pay their share of taxes. She will not owe them any favors. She is a kind, considerate American.”
This endorsement marks a continuation of Young’s political activism. In August, he allowed Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, to use his song “Rockin’ In The Free World” on the campaign trail. This move came after Young previously sued Donald Trump for using the song without permission during his 2020 campaign.
Young’s 2020 copyright infringement lawsuit against Trump was rooted in the unauthorized use of his music at political rallies, including the infamous Tulsa rally. “The Campaign does not now have, and did not at the time of the Tulsa rally, have a license or Plaintiff’s permission to play the two songs at any public political event,” the lawsuit stated, seeking statutory damages for willful copyright infringement.
Young has repeatedly voiced his discontent with Trump’s use of his music, writing in a blog post: “Imagine what it feels like to hear ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ after this president speaks, like it is his theme song. I did not write it for that.”
Young joins a growing list of high-profile musicians backing Harris and Walz ahead of the November 5 election. Other notable endorsements include Stevie Wonder, who appeared in a political ad with Spike Lee, as well as support from Michael Stipe, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, P!nk, Bon Iver, Quavo, Bruce Springsteen, and Olivia Rodrigo.
