After spending 14 consecutive weeks at the top, the reign of SPY x FAMILY has finally come to an end, with Kingdom Season 4 becoming the Most-Watched Anime and TV Show on Japanese Streaming and VOD Services.
While the Kingdom anime might not quite live up to the standard the manga has set for the series. The anime has still been immensely popular among both the younger and older audiences in Japan, and the series’ popularity has shot up with the anime moving towards the conclusion of the latest season of the beloved seinen.

One Piece takes the second spot on the list with the release of One Piece Film: Red. The anime has also been delivering consistent and quality episodes week after week ever since its return from hiatus.

One Piece Film: Red has become the highest-grossing movie of the franchise, making over 8 Billion Yen ($60 Million) in just thirteen days of its release. The film has surpassed One Piece: Film Z, which made 6.8 Billion Yen ($50.5 Million) during the entirety of its run in just two weekends. Within the first thirteen days, the latest One Piece film has already seen over a massive 5.7 million admissions.
SPY x FAMILY was previously the Most Popular Anime in Japan for the last three months.
SPY x FAMILY has caught the eye of everyone, even the casual anime fans. The hype surrounding this series has been insane, with the anime quickly becoming one of the biggest new anime to have come out in recent years. The series has been insanely popular not just in Japan but also globally.
SPY x FAMILY was the Most-Watched Anime on Japanese Streaming and VOD Services among almost every age demographic and both the male and female audiences for 14 consecutive weeks before the first week of August. The series is currently the Third Most Popular Anime in Japan.
The anime’s success has resulted in the manga series selling more than 5 million copies this year already in Japan. And even in the USA, the manga has been one of the Best-Selling Graphic Novels and Comics during the past few months.
Meanwhile, Detective Conan and Demon Slayer continue to be consistent as they take the next two spots on the list, respectively.
Ao Ashi is more popular in Japan right now than Made in Abyss and Overlord.
Ao Ashi is currently leading the rest of the pack with another great episode under its belt and is the 7th Most Popular Anime in Japanese Streaming right now.
Meanwhile, the critically acclaimed dark fantasy hit from 2017, Made in Abyss, which returned with its second season last month, is currently the Most-Watched Anime from the Summer Season in Japan. The anime has been garnering heaps of praise this season as well and has been hailed by many as the Best Anime of Summer 2022.
Overlord, which returned with its fourth season after four years, takes the penultimate spot on the list.

We have seen plenty of surprise hits this year so far, with Ya Boy Kongming and Ranking of Kings being two of the biggest anime on Japanese streaming services this year. Another anime that has caught us by surprise this year is the latest Netflix release, Uncle from Another World, which has remained among the Top 10 ever since its premiere.
Uncle from Another World is a hilarious comedic spin on the Isekai genre with a perfect dose of nostalgia going for it. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is definitely worth checking out just for its SEGA references. And if you are a JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fan, then you must know that the main character is voiced by Takehito Koyasu, the voice of Dio.
Meanwhile, in the teenage demographic, Lycoris Recoil is the Most-Watched Anime of the season, while The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting is the only other anime from the season to make the list.
The Quintessential Quintuplets is the Third Most-Watched Anime in Japanese Streaming and VOD services among teenagers, while My Hero Academia and Haikyuu!! have also re-entered the Top 10.
