Demon Slayer is currently the Most Popular Anime in Japan right now with Tokyo Revengers falling down to second place.
GEM Partners has recently unveiled their list for the Most Popular Anime in Japan for the first month of the Fall 2021 anime season, and the return of Demon Slayer has finally dethroned Tokyo Revengers who had been dominating Japanese television and streaming services for the past three months.
Demon Slayer took the title of the Most-Watched TV Series in Japan for the first time this year since January with the return of the TV anime last month. The series has finally returned for a second season after a two-year-long hiatus and is currently airing the television version of its much-successful movie, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train.
Demon Slayer is also the only anime on the list that has not fallen out of the Top 5 for over a year.
Meanwhile, Tokyo Revengers is currently the third most-streamed TV Series in Japan as Squid Game holds the second spot. The series whose manga has sold over 20 million copies within the last few months first entered the Top 20 in May with a huge jump from its 37th position in April to 5th in the following month.

Kingdom, which has spent most of the year in the bottom half of the Top 10 has now shot up to the 4th position with the conclusion of its third season. It’s always a bit of a surprise to see just how polar the anime’s reception is in Japan in contrast to the rest of the world.
Whereas, My Hero Academia franchise which is not only successful in Japan but is equally so around the world is having its best year yet. The third movie in the series, My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission, has made over $40 million in the Box Office around the world. The manga sales are at an all-time high for the series and the anime itself continues to be among the Top 5 most-popular anime of 2021 in the nation.

The second part of the latest season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime also continues to take the series and the source material to impressive new territories with the sales of its light novels and DVDs as well as its streaming figures making it one of the most successful anime this year.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is not only the most popular isekai of the year in Japan but is also currently one of the biggest and most popular anime of the year in the country. The series was the eighth most-streamed TV series in SVOD services in Japan in October.
The Slime isekai will return with a sequel movie that is slated to premiere next fall.
One Piece concludes the first half of the list as it is ranked behind The Masked Singer Japan and into the 10th spot. The One Piece anime is about to air its milestone 1000th episode next week which will be streaming on both Crunchyroll and Funimation.

The release of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time landed the original anime among the Top 5 for a few months and it is still holding strong with the anime currently at 11th position within Japan’s Top 20 Most-Watched TV Series in SVOD services. Jujutsu Kaisen has now fallen out of the Top 10 and it is just behind Evangelion this month while Attack on Titan has fallen out of the Top 20 altogether.
Meanwhile, some of the new entries on the list include JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, which have taken 14th and 15th place respectively. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is gearing for its Part 6, Stone Ocean, which premieres on Netflix in December. While Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is currently airing its second cour.
